Goal(s): Gain experience with evaluating the null hypothesis, based upon the p value.
How: For each scenario presented, evaluate the p value, and decide whether to reject the null hypothesis. Make 30 quick decisions, with immediate feedback.
Site: P2L.io
For this game, a red dot is used to represent the sample mean.
The null hypothesis states that the population mean is in the middle of the distribution of sample means. Thus, based on the null hypothesis, we expect the sample mean to occur near the middle of the distribution.
With Hypothesis Testing, we evaluate whether we consider the null hypothesis is believable. A large the p value indicates that the null hypothesis is quite reasonable, and should be retained.
We get a small p value when the sample mean is far away from where the null hypothesis says it should be found. Reject the null hypothesis when the p value is .05 or smaller.
